Sands Anderson, a full-service, mid-sized Mid-Atlantic law firm with a history of excellence and steady expansion, is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Attorney to lead our growing Employee Benefits Team. This is a key leadership opportunity for an attorney who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to shape the future of employee benefits law within a growth minded firm.
Relocation support is available. We welcome experienced candidates considering a move to coastal Virginia.
What Youll Do
- Design and manage innovative employee benefits programs including retirement, health & welfare, executive compensation, equity, and deferred compensation.
- Interpret and apply complex regulations, including IRC Sections 409A, 457(f), 280G, and 162(m).
- Represent clients in negotiations with the IRS, Department of Labor (DOL), and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC).
- Advise on ERISA-related matters in M&A, defined benefit and cash balance plans, union agreements, and retiree healthcare.
- Counsel clients on compliance with ACA, HIPAA, HITECH, and wellness programming.
- Serve a diverse client base including for-profit, tax-exempt, healthcare, and governmental organizations.
- Lead and grow our Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice group.
What You Bring
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active license to practice in Virginia (or willingness to obtain).
- Extensive experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law.
- Strong interpersonal and client development skills.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial spirit with the drive to build and lead.
