Law, Security & Public Policy (LSPP) has an opening for the Assistant General Counsel – Resource Industries Sales, Services & Technology Division.
The Resource Industries Sales, Services & Technology Division (RISST) is responsible for supporting worldwide sales of various mining products and technology, including autonomous hauling, and delivering services to our mining customers.
The Assistant General Counsel focuses on providing legal support for a broad range of issues and business concerns for the Technology & Global Sales Support and Operations organization, including complex technology agreements, marketing and external communications, legal entity management, and general business matters. The role provides leadership and legal expertise on significant legal issues, conducting analysis and providing counsel to senior business leaders, including RISST VPs and Directors for the Technology & Global Sales Support and Operations organization. The position reports to the Lead Counsel for RISST.
What You Will Do:
- Advise senior management and provide clear recommendations on legal matters
- Provide primary legal support for Technology & Global Sales Support and Operations organization, including managing commercial legal matters related to the licensing and support of the various Cat MineStar solutions and, as part of the RISST Legal team, supporting legal needs for the broader RISST organization
- Implement legal strategies and goals in line with company's business objectives, researching complex legal issues and reviewing and drafting complex legal documents
What You Have:

- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
- Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization
- Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner
- Organizational Leadership: Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives
- Resource Management: Knowledge of the resources required to achieve business objectives; ability to plan and leverage resources to fulfill business objectives and plans
- Legal Analysis: Knowledge of methods and tools used in legal analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from both legal and factual information
- Legal Function: Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the legal function or department; ability to provide legal consulting, advice and assistance
Degree and Experience Requirements:
- J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- Eligible to practice as in-house counsel in Arizona
- Demonstrated business acumen with strong intellectual curiosity
- Considerable experience providing counsel for a global business and solid knowledge of Caterpillar's worldwide operations, policies, objectives, and history; 12+ years of progressively advancing job-related experience is typically required
- Experience in leadership gained through previous senior level or supervisory assignments

- The primary location for this position is at Caterpillar Global Mining’s offices in Tucson, Arizona

Summary Pay Range:
$227,760.00 - $341,640.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
