Hours: TBD by manager
Days: Monday - Friday, flexible based on intern availability

Department: Corp Compliance Office - 241

The Intern is utilized in various departments. ARUP's culture is one of caring for both the patient and its employees.

About the Supervisor:

Jonathan Carr is the Chief Compliance Officer of ARUP Laboratories.

Internship Description:

The intern will work very closely with ARUP Patent Agent and Chief Compliance Officer within the Corporate Compliance Office.

This internship will focus on regulatory compliance, privacy, and risk. Could also research and analyze IP laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. 

Assists with education and training of ARUP community about IP issues.

Conducts research and analysis for IP-related projects.

Prepares written and verbal reports and recommendations.

Assists with intellectual property license negotiation and drafting.

Supports intellectual property litigation activities.

Internship Goals

Learn more about in-house intellectual property and compliance activities in a clinical laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills & Techniques Learned from Internship:

Patent filing and prosecution, patent licensing and commercialization, trademark opposition proceedings, communication with outside counsel and with internal innovation teams.

Measurement of New Skills:

Close observation and evaluation of written work product.

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
