The Syracuse University Office of University Counsel seeks to hire an Assistant General Counsel who will work in the areas of contract negotiation, drafting and management, business, finance, purchasing, and corporate matters. The Assistant General Counsel will provide comprehensive legal services and guidance to the University on transactional matters, and other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel and collaborates with the Associate General Counsels.
Responsibilities
Draft, review and negotiate contracts pertaining to a wide range of topics and higher education operations, including but not limited to purchasing, marketing, confidentiality, professional services , academic programs, speaking and entertainment engagements, event hosting, and collaborations. Assist in implementing and maintaining the University’s comprehensive contract lifecycle management initiative. Independently prepare correspondence, memoranda, presentations, reports, legal briefs, and other documents in compliance with University policies and procedures, legal requirements, and high professional standards. Conduct legal research as assigned or requested including to support policy language development or revision. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues and information and exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive or potentially sensitive topics. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA -accredited law school Admitted to the New York State Bar or eligibility for admission within six months of hiring. 2 plus years of legal experience as a practicing transactional attorney in a law firm or in-house setting
