Savannah River National Laboratory SRNL is seeking an experienced paralegal with administrative duties included in experience.  Must have a background in a law office or other legal environment. Positions will consult with members on SRNL management team and peers regarding support from the office of the General counsel. The position will have occasion to handle sensitive and internal data and provide appropriate support to SRNL positions each report to the respective leaders in their organizations.

 



Responsibilities

Prepare for litigation of cases with outside counsel and personnel or organizations being represented by SRNL. Complete the necessary discovery and trial preparation for contract litigation. Conduct factual investigations, witness interviews, document discovery, prepare answers to complaints, pleadings, interrogatories, affidavits, depositions, and secure data supporting SRNL's position during litigation. Organize for trial. Prepare data relative to negotiating contract claims. Conduct field research. Analyze data and procurement issues. Conduct involved legal research. Using research skills and knowledge base of legal resources available, conduct more involved legal research, draft legal documents and perform other related duties. Prepare memoranda, briefs, reports, and contractual agreements. Provide liaison between GC's office and other SRNL departments. Carry out broad paralegal assignments with a minimum of oversight or supervision. Supervise subcontract employees engaged for special projects or for temporary staff augmentation. May represent company attorneys in dealing with external contacts and in executing simple legal matters. May be assisted by and may provide guidance to nonexempt or entry level personnel.

Project management is a core responsibility, activities include:

Work directly with GC staff to help implement project goals.  Oversee variable aspects of projects and provide direct assistance to ensure timely project execution.  Liaise with project lead and other team members to maintain project schedule and efficacy.  Assist with procuring materials/services and other items necessary for completing project goals.  Review project implementation and gather data on project execution.



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a nontechnical or business discipline and at least 7 years of experience in business, administrative or other legal-related areas. An Associate degree and 8-12 years of experience or a high school diploma and greater than 15 years of relevant experience would be considered an equivalent substitute. 
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
This job has specific physical requirements such as lifting, driving, ability to travel, etc; Lifting files under 20 lbs.; climbing stairs.
