Base pay in range will be determined by applicant’s skills and experience. Role is also eligible for team based bonus opportunities. Temporary associates are not benefits eligible but may participate in the company’s 401(k) program.

Responsibilities

The Legal Operations Specialist is responsible for daily support to field operations, conducting research and other legal support functions as assigned by the legal department.

  1. Acts as the primary point of contact for designated states/regions for advice and legal operations support for field operations. Assists with plans of correction, interpretation of Company policies and state regulations, approval of media talking points, review of medical record requests, and guidance to field operations when reportable events occur.
  2. Reviews community and agency level healthcare and ancillary contracts.
  3. Negotiates settlements with third parties, including residents/families.
  4. Conducts regulatory research, policy review and makes recommendations for implementation.
  5. Drafts discharge letters.
  6. Maintains/updates departmental reports, databases, file systems, mailing lists and logs, as required.
  7. Conducts trainings for field operations and other departments.

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or other related field required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Additional education or experience can be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • Minimum of one year legal or long-term care experience preferred.
  • Strong academic credentials preferred.

 

 

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

Paralegal certificate preferred.

 

Management/Decision Making
Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses independent sound judgment and experience to solve moderate to complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness or a combination of these.

 

Knowledge and Skills

Has knowledge of the organization in order to answer questions. Basic typing skills essential along with basic knowledge of PCs, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with state agencies, third party owners and a variety of Brookdale associates. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
