
Under supervision of the Crime Analyst Supervisor, the Crime Analyst (CA) I compares and verifies incoming fingerprint and palm print transactions and hard card images submitted by law enforcement and applicant agencies with existing department records by utilizing the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and visually examining the fingerprint and palm print friction ridge impressions and associated documents. The CA I also accesses various automated systems including the Automated Criminal History System, Automated Archive System, and Justice Transaction Manager and performs the more technical input and update functions in the AFIS. The CA I performs timely and accurate verifications and is accountable for erroneous conclusions and maintaining production levels established by the California Identification System Program. Duties may also include verifying fingerprint images for Record Review, Jane/John Doe and Department of Motor Vehicles casework, and testifying as an expert witness.

Working Conditions
