Serves as an assistant division counsel for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS); prepares and provides guidance on legal documents, opinions, and regulation and/or policy compliance; provides case management research
Required
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Six (6) years of experience in a public or private sector legal practice or human resources office dealing with public school legal issues.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Membership in, or eligibility for, the Virginia Bar.
- Knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas: the Constitution, Freedom of Information Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, intellectual property, student rights, custody, education, employment, civil rights, real estate, local government, procurement, contract, or tort law.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with senior FCPS administrators and community and governmental leaders.
- Ability to interpret laws, regulations, policies, and rules.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation for research, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Litigation and project management experience.
