
Calibrate is partnering with one of Texas’s most respected law firms, to recruit a Director of Finance & Accounting who will bring oversight and hands-on leadership to the firm’s accounting operations.
Reporting to the Executive Director and partnering with the Managing Partner, the Director of Finance & Accounting will oversee all financial operations of the firm—including budgeting, reporting, billing, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and partner compensation calculations. This individual will serve as a key lieutenant on financial matters, a mentor, and a collaborative advisor to firm leadership. Strong financial oversight, people management capabilities, and leadership presence will be required for this position.

Key responsibilities:
Budgeting & Financial Planning: Partner with the Executive Director to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting efforts; deliver insights to firm leadership and improve the financial information for non-finance stakeholders.
Team Leadership & Succession: Supervise and mentor a team of finance professionals; support upcoming transitions and strengthen team capabilities in preparation for future leadership.
Partner Compensation & Attorney Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation of partner compensation calculations, K-1 statements, contingency fee distributions, and attorney-specific financial summaries.
Systems Modernization & Process Improvement: Evaluate current financial systems and processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and lead implementation efforts in coordination with IT and external vendors.
Client Billing & Profitability: Manage billing cycles, trust account reconciliation, and electronic billing platforms to support timely collections and improve firm profitability.
Requirements:
- CPA required; bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial leadership roles, preferably in professional services
- Deep understanding of GAAP, cash flow reporting, and budgeting principles
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong financial technology skills; experience leading ERP or financial reporting upgrades a plus
- Experience with financial system implementations
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present financial information to non-finance audiences
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and drive continuous improvement
- Must be based in Austin, TX and available for in-office work 5 days per week
