The Department also represents the State in criminal appeals from state trial courts, and brings legal actions on behalf of the state and its citizens when the public interest is at stake.
The primary purpose of the Special Litigation Section is to represent the State, its agencies, officers and employees, in complex, novel, controversial or high profile litigation.
The primary purpose of this Attorney V position is to enhance the ability of the Attorney General’s Office to represent the interests of the State in complex, novel, controversial or high profile issues and litigation.
This position will perform the most advanced professional legal work with responsibility for handling serious, complex, novel, controversial, high profile and protracted lawsuits at all levels in all courts of the State and the United States. These suits are of major significance to the State and to the jurisprudence of the State and can involve major constitutional issues, public policy concerns or issues that have extreme impact on economic conditions, natural resources or a wide segment of the general public. This attorney will be responsible for consulting and working with clients in other agencies and with keeping those clients appropriately informed about the status of suits involving them.
This position will have direct and independent responsibility for devising and implementing strategy, and tactics for resolving suits in a manner consistent with the policies of the State and the interest of citizens.
THE RECRUITMENT RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS $116,147 - $130,266.

Credit for foreign degrees will only be given if verification of degree certification is attached to your application. Transcripts for foreign degrees have to be evaluated by an organization like World Education Services to determine US equivalency.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
