Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Associate Corporate Counsel – Employment & Litigation will be responsible for providing counsel and litigation support to the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel and the organization with respect to labor and employment legal matters, management of adversarial claims and contribute to other corporate legal functions as assigned.

 

YOUR GOAL

  • Budget vs. actual legal spend year over year (“YOY”) in employment, litigation and adversarial matters through effective internal handling of matters;
  • Timely response and resolution of employment and adversarial inquiries and disputes resulting in positive internal stakeholder feedback;
  • Successful mitigation of legal risk through proactive policy updates and training.

 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide advice and counsel on all aspects of day-to-day employment-related matters including leaves of absence, accommodations, discrimination/harassment, wage and hour compliance, terminations, and more
  2. Provide advice and counsel to Field on client-related complaints involving legal threats
  3. Manage and oversee outside counsel in employment-related and adversarial matters litigation, including setting case strategy, reviewing pleadings and discovery, controlling costs, and ensuring alignment with company’s business objectives and legal risk tolerance
  4. Identify, interpret, and apply applicable legal and regulatory requirements, determine their implications for the business, and ensure company’s practices are compliant with the same
  5. Perform other reasonable duties as required to assist the department and the company in achieving its goals and objectives

 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law degree from accredited law school with current admission in “good standing” in a state Bar, preferably Florida or ability to become licensed in Florida as in-house counsel
  • A minimum of 4 years practicing employment law, in-house and or with a national or regional firm
  • Substantive expertise in U.S. and Canadian employment law with significant knowledge of California employment law preferred

  • Ability to think strategically and evaluate potential risks, including economic, legal and reputational
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment on multiple projects, being able to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to support staff, as necessary
  • Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and assume significant responsibility appropriate to level of experience
  • Positive, solution-focused attitude, with the ability to foster strong working relationships in cross-functional settings
  • Willingness to take on a variety of new tasks, as necessary
