COUNSEL/SENIOR COUNSEL
Southern Company Services, Inc. (SCS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the areas described below. While this position may provide legal support to any of the subsidiaries of Southern Company, its primary focus will be to provide legal support to Alabama Power Company (APC). This position will report directly to the SCS Associate General Counsel, Commercial & Contracting, but will have frequent interaction with, and receive work assignments and direction from, the APC Associate General Counsel.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school; excellent academic credentials.
- Current member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar.
- At least (5) years of direct, significant experience in contract drafting, negotiation, dispute resolution, corporate transactions, and other commercial agreements.
- Experience in energy, utility, construction, real estate, intellectual property, energy services, technology, and government contracting law is a plus.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts related to company operations.
- Provide counsel on a broad range of legal, commercial, regulatory, contractual, and compliance issues, including without limitation: commercial and contract law, real estate, construction, lighting, energy services, intellectual property, privacy, technology, government contracting, and supply chain and procurement activities.
- Coordinate with internal business units and internal and external legal counsel.
- Provide legal advice on contract interpretation, disputes, and claims.
- Support internal legal operations.
- Conduct legal and factual research and provide analysis, summaries, and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Train and guide internal business units on legal matters and best practices.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
