  • License to practice law in the State of Alabama.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor Degree.
  • At least two years of relevant legal experience at a reputable law firm or in-house.

Position Purpose

The Associate General Counsel – Health Care provides analysis and counsel to the Company and its hospitals on regulatory and statutory compliance, operational and quality issues, medical staff management, hospital governance, internal investigations, reimbursement issues, administrative agency matters and other health care legal matters affecting the Company and its hospitals. The position works with other members of the Legal Department and members of other departments and assumes specific duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Knows, and remains current with\: 
    • Applicable laws, regulations, opinions and commentary;
    • Applicable company and hospital policies and guidance;
    • Applicable corporate departments and their roles;
    • Hospital governance structure and operations;
    • Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules & Regulations and Governing Body Bylaws; and
    • Company and department applications, including eCounsel, Ariba, LEO, Facility Master, MD-Staff, MD-Stat, Waystar, HPOD and NetDocuments.
  • Researches and analyzes health care developments and issues.
  • Writes, reviews and edits reports, opinions, correspondence, articles and other documents.
  • Anticipates and guards against legal and compliance risk facing the Company and its hospitals.
  • Develops and recommends company policy and position on legal and compliance issues.
  • Develops positive, collaborative relationships with members of the Legal Department, members of other departments and hospital management.
  •  Maintains and improves legal skills and knowledge through coursework, seminars, periodicals and other sources.
  • Develops strategies and aligns work to achieve goals.
  • Navigates the intranet and internet appropriately.
  • Competently utilizes specific technological applications to accomplish goals.
