Job Description

SPECIAL COUNSEL – LITIGATION (CONSTRUCTION) Locations: Miami, FL | Orlando, FL | Tampa, FL

Our client, a highly regarded AmLaw 50 law firm, is seeking a talented Special Counsel Attorney to join their dynamic Litigation Department in support of their Construction Practice Group. This full-time, non-partner-track role is available in the firm’s Miami, Orlando, or Tampa offices and is ideal for an experienced litigation attorney who thrives in a high-volume, independent work environment and is looking to focus on construction-related disputes, arbitration, and insurance litigation.

Candidate Profile:
  • JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record.

  • Active Bar Admission in Florida, in good standing.

  • 2–7 years of substantive litigation experience, ideally including arbitration and mediation.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting discovery, drafting and arguing motions in court, and handling depositions.

  • Familiarity with construction and design defect litigation, insurance claims, and related areas is highly desirable.

  • Proven success in case resolution, including settlements.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

  • Experience supervising paralegals and legal support teams is a plus.

  • Soft Skills: research, persuasive writing, time management, and interpersonal skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a high volume of construction-related litigation matters, with an emphasis on arbitration proceedings.

  • Draft legal documents, including motions, memoranda, pleadings, and discovery responses.

  • Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings.

  • Coordinate closely with supervising attorneys, clients, and opposing counsel to ensure efficient and effective resolution of disputes.

  • Support the Construction Practice Group in handling claims related to insurance, construction defects, design disputes, and contract performance.

  • Oversee and direct paralegals and support staff in case preparation and document management.

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a nationally-respected construction litigation practice at one of the country’s top law firms. Special Counsel attorneys enjoy a collaborative work culture with the autonomy to manage their caseloads and the support of a well-established team. The role offers exposure to complex arbitration and litigation matters in a fast-paced, intellectually rigorous environment—without the demands of a partner-track trajectory.

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation: The expected salary range for this position is $130,000–$140,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Comprehensive benefits package: includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance; 401(k) plan; paid parental leave; time off; and wellness and mental health support. Additional perks include backup child care, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement, and breast milk shipping services for mothers on business travel, among others.

Application Requirements:

Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and a writing sample.

Our client is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
