We are seeking a skilled and proactive Litigation Counsel with strong experience in property management and real estate law. The ideal candidate will handle all litigation matters involving the company’s portfolio, including landlord-tenant disputes, contract enforcement, compliance issues, and risk mitigation. You will work closely with the property management, legal, and executive teams to protect Tripalink’s interests while maintaining a pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of litigation, including pre-litigation strategy, pleadings, discovery, hearings, mediation, settlement, trial, and enforcement of judgments.
- Represent the company in landlord-tenant disputes, habitability claims, fair housing matters, and other property-related litigation.
- Coordinate and manage outside counsel when necessary.
- Conduct effective negotiations to facilitate dispute resolution, including reaching feasible agreements with opposing counsel, contractors, tenants, or other third parties on compensation, settlements, and contract terms.
- Partner with internal departments (property management, leasing, maintenance) to gather evidence, assess risk, and support legal responses.
- Advise the company on compliance with federal, state, and local housing laws and regulations.
- Draft and review legal documents including demand letters, contracts, settlement agreements, and internal policies.
- Maintain and update litigation tracking systems and provide regular reports to leadership.
- Develop internal training for property management staff on legal and regulatory issues.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active member of the California State Bar.
- 5+ years of legal experience, with at least 3 years focused on litigation.
- Significant experience in landlord-tenant law, property management legal issues, and real estate litigation.
- Strong understanding of California housing laws and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- A practical, business-minded approach to legal problem-solving.
- Experience working in-house at a property management or real estate firm.
$160,000 - $200,000 a year
