The County of Yolo is recruiting for one (1) regular, full-time positions in the class of Legal Secretary I/II at the Probation department. 


THE POSITION
This position will be assigned to both the West Sacramento and Woodland offices.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience providing clerical support and demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to periodic changes in assignments to meet the needs of the department. The candidate selected will be placed at the Legal Secretary I or II level depending on their background and experience, and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:

Legal Secretary I:   $49,483.20 - $60,153.60 Annually
Legal Secretary II: $52,000.00 - $63,211.20 Annually


Additionally, reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license are necessary as the employee will be required to travel to and from West Sacramento and Woodland.

Employment Standards


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Legal Secretary I
Experience:  Two (2) years of secretarial experience in a law office; or three (3) years of clerical experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, or other agency or firm involving the preparation and/or processing of legal documents.

Typing Speed Required:  Must type 35 net words per minute.  

Legal Secretary II
Experience:  One year of experience comparable to the duties of a Legal Secretary I in Yolo County; or four (4) years of general clerical experience in a criminal justice or law enforcement agency directly involving the preparation and/or processing of legal documents.

Typing Speed Required:  Must type 55 net words per minute. Positions assigned to the Sheriff’s Department must type 35 net words per minute. 

License Requirement: Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria: Online typing certificates are NOT accepted. In order for your typing certificate to be accepted, it must meet the following criteria:


  • The test must be a minimum of three minutes long
  • The test must have been in the past 12 months of application. Typing certificates older than 12 months are not accepted
  • The certificate must include time limit of the test, gross words per minute, number of errors, date of test, and the signature of the person administering the test
  • The certificate must be on agency letterhead

Screening for Best Qualified
The supplemental questions are designed to elicit specific information regarding a candidate's experience, education, and training.
