Position Summary

Works under general supervision to perform clerical and administrative accounting duties to assist with the maintaining the operations of the department.

Pay Grade: 42
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience in appropriate clerical account of finance capacity; and high school diploma or possess a GED: OR
  • Two (2) years of experience in appropriate clerical accounting or finance capacity; and associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or related field: OR
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
     

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides financial information to various state and local offices relating to fees and fines collected by Criminal Court.
  • Posts journal entries.
  • Prepares trial balances and posts receipts to financial ledgers.
  • Research accounts as directed by supervisor.
  • Works with other office staff in dealing with financial accounts and auditors, as required when directed to do so.
  • Performs other accounting related activities as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
     

KSAs

  • Knowledge of account theory and practice and of auditing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Business English and math and of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with the public, other departments in Shelby County Government and co-workers.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to perform data entry and maintain specialized databases and spreadsheets.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other software.
     

Special Requirements

  • Must be available for evening, weekend, and holiday work as required.

Shelby County Resident Disclaimer

All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment.  The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees.  This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department.  The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
