Job Description

The Atlanta office of Copeland, Stair, Valz & Lovell, LLP is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have five (5) or more years' experience in a law firm, providing both billable and non-billable/administrative support to multiple attorneys. We are not working with search firms to fill this role.

Summary of Position:

As a Paralegal you will support partners, of counsel and associate attorneys in providing litigation defense services to their clients. On any given day, you will be providing assistance to attorneys while working in concert with the support staff on multiple requests and projects.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years law office experience.
  • Intermediate Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Drafting deposition notices, extensions, standard discovery requests, HIPAA releases.
  • Scheduling: deposition, trial preparation, court reporters, internal meetings, meetings w/fact witnesses & counsel if applicable.
  • Research as requested by attorneys.
  • Draft & design demonstratives, prepare exhibits for depositions and trials.
  • Analyze damages claims including reviewing bills and creating spreadsheet comparison.
  • Perform e-billing maintenance: recording time, submitting budgets, managing contested bills, overseeing timekeeper submissions, communicating with accounting department.
  • Prepare, submit and manage third-party requests including medical records requests and open records requests.
  • Retrieve and organize pleadings and other case documents from court dockets, iManage, or litigation support for review by attorneys.
  • Assist with expense reports and compliance with client reporting and billing guidelines.
  • Other administrative duties as deemed necessary.

Skills

  • Exceptional legal and litigation experience including working knowledge of court system, e-filing and court filing requirements. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a high degree of initiative.
  • Independent judgment with excellent troubleshooting and follow-through skills.
  • Advanced communication skills- both writing and verbal.
  • Detail oriented mindset.
