Summary

This position is open only to current employees of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Applicants must serve and pass their six-month probation period in their current position in order to be eligible to apply.

Supervisor: Kristen Anderson

Salary: Range 44 - $ 33.72 (step one) - $42.75 (step ten) * 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, our core business hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Work Location: Seattle Courthouse, KCCH; In-person/telecommuting hybrid with supervisor approval; 

Job Duties

  • Receive, process and maintain police referrals and follow-up for all non-DV misdemeanor cases.
  • Responsible for a high volume of misdemeanor case management, which includes PbK case pre-filing, distribution and declines.
  • Prepare all felony drop downs for filing.
  • Work with Filing DPAs to prepare and create documents for filing with 3 courts. (Seattle, Redmond, and Kent)
  • Assist with daily jail calendar docketing/updating PbK. 
  • Assist Discovery Paralegal preparing referrals for the daily jail calendar.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to e-mails in a timely manner.
  • Assist Unit Chair, Vice Chair and LSP supervisor as requested
  • Perform related work or other projects as requested or required.
  • Attend mandatory RESJ trainings.
  • Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated, or existing ones modified as business needs evolve.
  • Active participation in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions. 
  • Provide support for the Race, Equity and Social Justice policy and principles and work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement are requisite. 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Follow written and verbal directions and complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment.
  • Work with supervision, coaching and feedback.
  • Considerable knowledge of district court practices and procedures.

  • Skills to have an overview of each task from beginning to end and to obtain all information needed so that necessary deadlines are met.
  • Skill to organize and maintain a complex paper flow system.
  • Skill to provide information, based on acquired job knowledge and overview, to other employees, law enforcement agencies and the public.
  • Skill to prioritize the vast amount of work between copying, filers' needs, supervisors' projects, and mail dispersion with constant interruptions.
  • Skill to independently interpret and apply general established guidelines in the performance of daily operations.
  • Skill to work under pressure and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Skill to express ideas and convey information effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Skill to make decisions within the scope of job duties and established guidelines.
  • Skill to perform assigned job duties with constant interruptions.
  • Skill to adapt to constant change of procedures, and to implement these changes.
  • Proficient knowledge of Word and Excel to create databases and programs.
  • Strong attention to detail

Application Process:

PAO employees who are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117 will receive priority consideration. There exists a broken rung in many organizations that can make attaining formal positions challenging to historically excluded groups.  We are not requesting a detailed expression of interest, as we prefer to keep barriers for applying low and will look forward to hearing about experience and aspirations for the role during the interview process.


Selection Process

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, qualified bargaining unit members will be invited to participate in a panel interview process. 


*Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of Teamsters Local No. 117.
