Job Description

Under the supervision of the Staff Services Manager II over the Media and Strategic Section, the Deputy Press Secretary performs a variety of analytical tasks related to the efficient functioning of the Office of Communications. Assignments may cover a number of areas, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with responses to press inquiries
  • Reviewing and analyzing information for press releases, consumer alerts, and policy matters
  • Assisting with writing and editing a variety of publications, reports, policy papers, and press releases
  • Organizing and staffing press events with the Attorney General and officials of the Department of Justice
  • Performing administrative tasks uncluding maintaining subscriptions, tracking reports, and completing travel reumbursements
  • Tracking, formatting, and disseminating daily communications reports
  • Gather information from members of the media by phone and email

Working Conditions This position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently a remote-centered position. The position may however require in-person attendance when requested. The selected candidate would report to Department of Justice office in Sacramento when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.

Please note that this classification contains multiple salary ranges. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 069. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
