Job Overview:
The Advisory, Brokerage, and Commercial team is actively seeking an effective, efficient, and pragmatic attorney who works well with others, and is passionate about helping LPL meet its legal obligations and grow its business. This position will be responsible for providing a broad range of in-house legal services and advice, with a primary focus on requirements that apply to broker-dealers and investment advisers in the areas of trading, operations, and lending.


Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will be able to thoughtfully consider legal issues and use good judgment to reach practical results, while ensuring that regulatory requirements are consistently met.

  • Interpret and apply statutes, regulations, and regulatory guidance to the development of policies, procedures, and business initiatives.  Requires superior judgment and aptitude for reading and interpreting relevant regulations and guidance. Familiarity with securities brokerage or financial industry regulation and compliance required.

  • Adapt quickly to dynamic environments and independently manage multiple project and committee assignments and deadlines.

  • Advise our internal business partners about risk areas and provide legal guidance regarding firm policies and procedures.

  • Draft and review agreements pertaining to areas of coverage.

  • Please note: Additional responsibilities or duties assigned as needed or determined, occasionally on an urgent basis.

Requirements:

  • JD from a nationally accredited law school; admitted to practice law, and in good standing, in at least one jurisdiction in the U.S.

  • 10 plus years of experience counseling on laws, rules and regulations impacting the financial services industry

  • Experience at a company in the financial services industry, law firm, or a regulator.  

Core Competencies:

  • Ideal candidate has worked with a focus on one or more of the following and an aptitude and interest to learn others: trading (execution and related reporting); operations (statements, reserves, custody, account opening, and related books and records); lending (margin, non-purpose, and stock lending); investor facing websites and mobile applications; resolving customer issues involving vulnerable investors, or arising from death or divorce; and, providing advice to compliance, risk and business units on product development, policies and procedures; and, occasionally assisting with regulatory inquiries as to these issues.

  • The ability to manage, train, and motivate other attorneys

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects and manage deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with members of senior management as well as adaptability and willingness to take on a wide variety of new tasks in a fast-paced environment

Pay Range:

$163,725-$272,875/year
 
Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
