SENIOR ATTORNEY – MUNICIPAL GOVERNANCE DIVISION

General Description
This position will serve as a resource to the teams within the Municipal Governance Division and manage a variety of matters (e.g. contracts, finance, grants, procurement, regulatory and legislative matters). A key aspect of this role is the ability to apply legal advice effectively to the issues presented by clients, to act in a responsive manner, take time to listen and understand clients’ needs and the complexities of the situation and assure that legal advice, counseling, and drafting is aligned with the City of Atlanta Municipal Code and other applicable laws. The Municipal Governance Division and its attorneys have a critical role in collaborating with other members of the City’s Department of Law as the areas covered may have an impact in other operational areas of City.
The attorney will:
Support the Finance Team
Provide advice and counsel to a variety of groups and departments within the City of Atlanta, including the Department of Finance, and the other clients of the Municipal Governance Division
Ensure that all processes are followed
Evaluate and communicate to internal stakeholders any contract risks and obligations and provide general legal advice as needed throughout the contracting, finance or pension appeal process
Establish productive relationships with the City agencies, departments, and functional groups
Conduct legal research related to applicable municipal, state, and federal laws and regulations and interpret laws, rulings and regulations to advise on legal matters.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate degree required. Must be a member of good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or the ability to obtain membership within one (1) year of employment. Must have at least ten (10+) years of post-graduate relevant legal experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in municipal, county, and/or constitutional law.
Demonstrated experience with contracts-related business and regulatory issues, including government contract formation and compliance.
Prior management experience.
