
Job Summary & Objectives
- The Senior Messaging Engineer serves as a subject matter expert and escalation point for all messaging-related technologies within the Firm. This role provides engineering and support for complex issues involving Outlook, mobile device management, and SMTP routing. The engineer will lead initiatives to enhance messaging infrastructure, enforce security and compliance standards, and collaborate across IT teams to support strategic projects. This position requires regular interaction with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of advanced Outlook and connected application issues, including integration with third-party tools.
- Oversee email offboarding processes, including secure export of data to PSTs and retention policy enforcement.
- Manage and audit shared mailboxes, distribution groups, and dynamic group memberships using PowerShell and automation tools.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the litigation team, ensuring timely and secure fulfillment of eDiscovery and litigation hold requests.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to support Firm-wide technology initiatives.
- Administer and enhance SMTP gateways, including spam filtering, DKIM/DMARC configuration, and TLS enforcement.
- Define and enforce email retention, archiving, and security policies in alignment with regulatory and Firm standards.
- Author and maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, knowledge base articles, and training materials for Level 1 and 2 support.
- Provide training and guidance to support desk personnel.
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for messaging-related outages or security events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Skills and Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting Outlook 365 and Outlook Mobile
- Strong PowerShell scripting skills for automation and reporting
- Experience with supporting iOS and Android devices on Intune
- Deep understanding of SMTP and the role of email gateways
- Experience with both on premise Exchange infrastructure and hybrid Office 365 with central transport
- Ability to troubleshoot mail routing issues
- Organized and comfortable working under pressure and against tight deadlines
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in email security, including phishing mitigation, encryption, and data loss prevention (DLP).
Preferred
- Experience with Cisco Email Security Appliances (IronPorts)
- Knowledge of anti-virus, spam, and metadata based email controls
- Familiarity with eDiscovery tools and litigation support workflows.

Salary Information
NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $165,000 to $195,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
