Summary: The 32BJ Legal Services Fund provides legal advice and representation to eligible 32BJ members and their eligible dependents. With the Immigration Team, the Paralegal will help our clients’ become citizens and assist with all aspects of our family-based immigration practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:▪ Conduct and assist with client interviews and follow up appointments as needed
▪ Work closely with clients to gather and organize supporting documentation as well as case administration
▪ Conduct research on immigration law and procedures
▪ Prepare draft correspondence and memoranda
▪ Track the status of filings and inform the client and attorney of required next steps
▪ Prepare immigration forms and related documents for filing with USCIS, the National Visa Center and other Immigration courts and agencies
▪ Work with attorneys and other stakeholders on all aspects of case management
▪ Maintain accurate time records of all work performed
▪ Update case files timely, including, insertion of notes, correspondence and file records; scanning documents and complete other physical and ministerial duties as necessary to maintain client files
▪ Ability to read, write and translate documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English
▪ Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
▪ Exhibit conscientiousness, dedication and a sense of responsibility
▪ Must have a professional, cooperative, positive and flexible attitude
▪ Paralegal Certification from an accredited Paralegal Program and/or B.A Degree
▪ Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
▪ Superior writing/editing skills
▪ Thorough command of the English language including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and style
▪ Adept with MS Office and expertise with computer assisted legal resources required
▪ One to three years experience as a Paralegal handling naturalization and family-based Immigration a plus
▪ Notary Public License preferred
