Opportunity

AALRR offers a unique opportunity to support the educational institutions guiding the next generation of Californians to reach their intellectual and creative potential. We are seeking an associate attorney for our Southern California Education Law Group in Irvine to provide advice and counsel to public K-12 schools, community college districts, and related entities. Ideally, the candidate will have at least one to two years of experience in labor and employment law. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support senior associates and partners in advising district and school site administrators on all aspects of managing employees, including discipline, dismissal, and release
  • Draft employment-related documents, including disciplinary notices and statements of charges
  • Serve as second-chair in representing local educational agencies in administrative hearings
  • Serve as an impartial fact-finder/investigator regarding allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and improper government activities
  • Guide clients in responding to California Public Records Act requests
  • Research questions of law and prepare internal memoranda and correspondence to clients
  • Provide relevant trainings for clients on topics of interest and participate in internal and external conferences and marketing opportunities

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the State Bar of California and in good standing
  • 1-2 years of labor and/or employment law experience, preferably for educational or other public entities
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Litigation and/or administrative hearing experience is a plus
  • Experience in conducting investigations is a plus
  • Fluency in speaking and writing Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to build and maintain effective client relationships
  • Proven experience managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Salary

The base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $135,000 and represents the Firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s education, skills, and experience.  The Firm offers a bonus program as well as a generous employee benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, and Firm profit-sharing contribution.
