Position Overview

The Office of General Counsel is seeking to hire a paralegal assistant to perform specialized paralegal support services within the Bureau of Hearings in connection with state and federal programs. This position performs general docketing, data entry, and other organizational support for the Bureau and performs specialized research, writing, and organizational services for the Bureau.

Essential Functions
  • Performs general docketing, data entry and other organizational support for the Bureau.
  • Performs general paralegal support services.
  • Oversees and tracks administrative reviews, subpoenas, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)s, Court of Claims filings, legal issues and other matters generally handled by the Bureau.
  • Reviews legal decisions, reports, transcripts, and similar documents for legal staff.
  • Translates functions/procedures into Spanish for individuals who cannot speak or read English.
  • Responds to routine legal inquiries and correspondence.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in such areas as legal, pre-legal, English, statistics or directly related coursework.
  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Spanish at a colloquial skill level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with search procedures, writing style, format, and vocabulary appropriate to the subject matter upon completion of a job learning period. 
  • One (1) year of professional experience operating in a paperless environment (all electronic records) for a public or private organization.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience writing in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in effective, collaborative communication (orally and written) to internal and external entities. 
  • One (1) year of professional experience analyzing, appraising, and organizing facts and in presenting such material. 
  • One (1) year of related professional experience working with administrative hearings rules, regulations, and process.

Work Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday; 1-hour unpaid lunch
