Job Description

If you have experience handling VA compensation claims and a passion for helping vets beat the VA, this is the attorney position for you. Tucker Disability Law fights for veterans all over the country. Our agency-focused practice will allow you to strategize tactics and develop evidence for clients at the RO and BVA. While we handle cases before the CAVC, court practice is not our primary focus. We are a team of highly trained and dedicated professionals working to get veterans and their survivors the disability compensation they deserve.

 

We have 23 team members in 7 different states.  This position is full-time and will be performed remotely, maintaining on-task performance while working independently during firm hours without direct oversight. Occasional travel to our headquarters office in St. Petersburg, Florida or to industry conferences, as appropriate, may occur occasionally.  The position requires a goal-oriented person with a strong skill set in VA procedure and practice to properly supervise non-attorney staff who perform high-level functions on the team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Personally represent clients in the prosecution of appeals before the VA Regional Office, BVA or the CAVC, including developing evidence and extensive research and writing of letter briefs and appellate filings.

- Supervise and train non-attorneys.

- Coordinate the progress of claims, including ensuring the battle plan developed by the firm is implemented and planning for next steps at each stage of claims.

- Maintain excellent relationships with clients, including delivering legal services that are personalized to each client's situation.

- Respond to written and telephonic inquiries from clients.

- Maintain effective communication and personal relationships with clients through mail, telephone, and email.

- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current veteran statutes, regulations, and case law through personal research and by attending CLE training, subject to approval.

- Reach all relevant key performance indicators at scheduled intervals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

- No less than 1 to 2 full years of actual experience handling VA compensation claims for veterans OR 2 years of experience as an attorney at the Board of Veterans Appeals or Office of General Counsel, or Clerking for the CAVC.

- Accreditation / PIV Card access to VBMS (or previous qualification for access with ability to reinstate in a short period of time following hire).

- Law Degree and Bar Admission in at least one State.

- Status as an honorably discharged veterans is a plus.

- Empathy for those with disabilities.

- A commitment to fighting for veterans to obtain the benefits they earned.

 

Before hiring, you will be asked to prepare a writing sample evidencing superior writing and reasoning skills.
