Legal Assistant - Constitutional Defense and Special Litigation
The Constitutional Defense and Special Litigation Division of the Office of the Attorney General has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant to provide high-level administrative support to attorneys and legal teams by preparing legal documents, managing case files, and coordinating court filings. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
This position will be primarily telework, with time in the office required for various activities.- Responsibilities
Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and correspondence.
Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files.
Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, and track court dates and deadlines.
Handle incoming calls, emails, and mail, and route communications appropriately.
Electronically file legal documents with state and federal courts.
Liaise with court clerks to resolve filing issues and confirm procedural compliance.
Track and manage court deadlines using calendaring tools.
Create tables of contents and authorities for legal briefs.
Assist with deposition and trial preparation, including logistics and document compilation.
Utilize legal software (e.g., Legal Files, Adobe Acrobat Pro) for document management and redactions.
Verify citations.
Ensure confidentiality and compliance with legal ethics.
Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and external stakeholders.
Support litigation teams during trial preparation.
- Qualifications
(includes knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after entry into position)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a legal administrative role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Draft, review, edit, and proofread documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Enter, transcribe, record, and maintain information in both written and electronic formats.
- Prioritize tasks and manage workload efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Identify and propose creative solutions to problems.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in team settings.
- Interact with others using tact, sensitivity, and professionalism.

- Fast-paced legal environment requiring multitasking and prioritization.
- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
