Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join our State Regulatory Legal team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable, affordable, clean energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote, once the initial in-person training period has been completed. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate.
What does a Corporate Counsel on the State Regulatory Legal Team do for us?
They support the company by providing legal advice and support on a variety of legal issues relating to Idaho Power’s business and operations as a regulated electric public utility. This includes representing Idaho Power before the Idaho Public Utilities Commission and the Public Utility Commission of Oregon, working closely with internal experts to develop and prepare regulatory filings and cases including general rate cases, negotiation of contracts, and providing legal advice and support to various business units throughout the Company.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Knowledge of:
- General knowledge of state regulatory principles and laws, preferably in the areas of public utility regulation and practice before state regulatory bodies
- Must possess general familiarity with other areas of law within scope of responsibility and where appropriate
- Sufficient knowledge of the business to be able to reconcile potentially conflicting legal needs and business objectives
Ability to:
- Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and public
- Effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
- Work both independently and as part of team demonstrating good analytical skills and proficiency with legal research and writing as well as drafting of pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Juris Doctorate degree
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law in a relevant specialty at a law firm, large corporate legal department, and/or with the government
Preferred:
- Experience as an in-house counsel for a public utility or as legal counsel for a state regulatory body
Licenses & Certifications:
- Current membership in a State Bar, and the ability to become licensed to practice law in Idaho within a reasonable time
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
