
Civil Defense Litigation Attorney – Full-time
Foster Swift Collins & Smith PC See More Job Openings by This EmployerFoster Swift Collins & Smith, P.C. is looking to hire a full-time civil defense litigation attorney for its growing insurance defense, premises liability, transportation, and general commercial litigation practice in its Southfield office.
This is an exceptional opportunity for attorneys to be part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment where they will be able to take ownership of their cases and hone their litigation skills. We welcome candidates at all stages of their careers, but applicants should have a minimum of four years of litigation experience. Candidates must be admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and in good standing to be considered.
- Manage files through all stages of litigation
- Draft pleadings, motions, and responses and legal correspondence
- Handle all aspects of discovery including taking depositions as well as drafting and responding to interrogatories and requests to produce
- Represent clients in court proceedings, including motion hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, trials, and evidentiary hearings
- Work closely with clients including writing regular status reports and communicating complex information (written and oral) to stakeholders in an accessible way
- Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff

- 4+ years litigation experience including drafting pleadings, motion practice, depositions, and case management
- JD from an accredited law school
- Admitted to State Bar of Michigan and be in good standing
- Excellent persuasive writing, legal research, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong professional judgment, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong work ethic with a record of being proactive and resourceful
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a busy caseload, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail
