How you will create an impact
As Claims Coverage Counsel, you will provide timely, accurate and actionable legal advice to AIG member insurance companies and AIG claims groups on matters involving insurance coverage. You will handle legal matters of the highest complexity and financial exposure, with the ability to interact positively and effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Provide claims professionals timely and accurate coverage advice and draft legal opinions for various claims groups for matters arising under various policy types, with an emphasis on assisting with first and third party property coverage issues.
- Assist claims professionals and managers with coverage determinations, drafting of coverage correspondence, risk transfer opportunities and litigation management.
- Analyze probable outcomes of coverage litigation through research of legal precedents and provide corresponding practical and cost-effective legal advice.
- Develop and execute trial and/or pre-trial strategy to obtain the most cost-effective outcomes.
- Perform policy language and endorsement reviews and opine on verbiage impact and applicability to claim scenarios.
- Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with key internal and external business partners to ensure that service delivery meets appropriate standards and expectations.
- Support ongoing technical claims improvement projects through initiatives to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
What you will need to succeed
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in handling complex insurance coverage opinions and coverage litigation; prior experience handling coverage issues related to property losses required.
- Strong and effective communication skills and ability to interact productively with clients, claims peers, and Senior Leadership.
- Ability to independently handle and coordinate an assigned coverage claim files and coverage opinion matters.
- Detailed knowledge of local statutes, regulations and case law; ability to develop manage and monitor pre-trial and trial strategies; knowledge of rules of evidence, court rules and procedures.
- Ability to advise claims professional on technical issues.
- Must have working understanding of and be comfortable with Windows, Office, Adobe, videoconferencing platforms, remote technology and internal systems.
- Must be able to work independently and remotely as well as in an office/group setting.
- JD required.
- Must be admitted, in good standing and able to practice law; multiple admissions are favorable.
