Job Description

This position is in a Regional or Subregional Office of General Counsel and reports directly to the Regional Director or to his/her designee. This General Attorney (Labor) (Senior Field Attorney) is responsible for handling large, high profile, or extremely complex investigations and litigation of both unfair labor practice and representation cases at all stages of processing and/or other difficult assignments as assigned.

Duties

As a GENERAL ATTORNEY (LABOR) (SENIOR FIELD ATTORNEY), GS-0905-15, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serving as principal attorney on assigned cases or lead attorney on cases involving nationwide litigation;
  • Serving as a mentor to junior staff attorneys and/or team leader for more experienced attorneys to ensure Agency's mission are communicated and integrated;
  • Drafting all necessary correspondence, memos, minutes, pleadings, and motions which will require the addressing of complex issues;
  • Making recommendations regarding the handling of cases and the strategies for managing cases.

Salary
  • $123,041 - $159,950/year

IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT


The ideal candidate has case management experience ranging from relatively simple to cases which involve more elements of high difficulty. The candidate has a thorough understanding of conducting elections and has a thorough understanding how to complete all basic phases of case processing. Attention to detail is critical to the completion and review of case work. Excellent communication skills are required.

BASIC REQUIREMENT

Education: An applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LL. B or JD).

Bar Membership/Certification: Applicants must be an active member of the Bar in good standing of any state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or any Territorial court under the US Constitution. Your active BAR license must reference BAR number and indicate the status of good standing. Agency's Internal Self-Certification Forms are not acceptable for verification.

In addition to the BASIC REQUIREMENT, applicants must also meet the following:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which has provided them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a General Attorney (Labor) (Senior Field Attorney) at the GS-15 grade level.

Specialized experience includes:
  • Experience applying regulations, policies, and knowledge of the National Labor Relations Act to apply authoritative interpretation of investigations and litigation; case law and pertinent statutes; and judicial decisions of unfair labor practice and representation cases.
  • Experience independently conducting extensive case review research to formulate strategies and support decisions rendered.
  • Experience composing legal documents applying interpretation of law to render legal advice, counsel, and opinions.
