Come join TNC’s growing legal team supporting the Provide Food & Water Global Strategies Team (Provide) and the Protect Oceans, Lands & Waters Global Strategies Team (Protect).   
 

Through regenerative and resilient food and water systems, the Provide team is catalyzing action to improve food and water security, support communities and conserve and restore biodiversity. Their success hinges on partnerships and collaboration across the food and water sectors. The Protect team is focusing on the most effective conservation pathways and global priorities to ensure that TNC protects the right 30% of the planet, effectively managed, durably financed and guided by inclusive partnerships with Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

We’re Looking for You:
 

The Senior Attorney will work with a lead attorney on a core team providing legal services on complex matters to advance priorities and appropriately manage risk to assigned programs. They will provide legal support and advice on complex matters to the Provide Food & Water team, the Global Protect Oceans, Lands & Waters team, and other business units as assignedThey will apply highly developed analytical and risk management skills to serve organizational needs efficiently and effectively, clearly articulate complex legal concepts and options to legal team members, project managers, and high-level business unit managers. They will have experience developing, directing, and managing multiple projects or transactions, implementing strategic program goals, and observing governance requirements. They will ensure that transactions and activities are legally sound and consistent with the organization’s mission, authority, policies, and procedures. They will need to travel occasionally and work long or flexible hours as needed. 

What You’ll Bring:
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent and license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction 

  • 5 years relevant legal experience 

  • Experience with complex collaborations between private sector entities (for-profits, industry coalitions) and governmental authorities or nonprofit entities 

  • Experience handling sophisticated transactions and drafting complex agreements including incoming and outgoing grant agreements 

  • In-house experience and/or law firm experience advising sophisticated clients and senior management 

  • Ability to work closely as part of a team handling multiple projects and transactions concurrently 
     

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with complex and sophisticated transactional matters, such as mergers & acquisitions, project finance, commercial services agreements, and securities transactions  

  • Experience with nonprofit governance, grant agreements, regulations, and tax law related to tax exempt organizations 

  • Experience working across cultures on cross-border transactions 

  • Experience with engaging and collaborating with country-specific local counsel

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $100,000 - $150,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location and specific starting salary range will be confirmed during the recruitment.
