The purpose of this intermediate level position is to provide under limited supervision and limited attorney direction, a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in litigation support and case management for matters in district court governed by the Texas Property Tax Code.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma and paralegal certificate or high school diploma and at least 2-3 years’ applicable litigation experience.
  • Paralegal Certificate and/or college hours preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years’ relevant litigation experience (including moderate-volume litigation)
Job Responsibilities

General Responsibilities                                                                                                      

  • Organize and track files for important case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database.
  • Drafting and filing with the court legal court documents, such as pleadings, notions, affidavits and subpoena
  • Under supervision recognize relevant legal documents associated with Texas Property Tax Code litigation
  • Conduct routine discovery.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of expert reports and CMS system
  • Working knowledge of e-filing system
  • Docketing and calendaring court dates
  • Routine language skills including communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Review routine questions
  • Able to work well with other department members
  • Self-starter who is proactive and positive attitude in their work
  • Resolve routine legal issues
  • Retrieving cases and conducting searches on District Clerk website
  • Updates electronic files
  • Listens carefully and is aware of other team members workload and stress
  • Ability to operate multi-functional copiers, scanning and printing equipment
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks under pressure with minimal errors
  • Participates and learns to apply and effectively contribute to discussions during meetings
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time in an office setting. 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, walking, talking and hearing. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with ability to reach, bend and move up/down on steps. Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment with ability to effectively communicate by phone, e-mail, writing and face to face required.  Must be able to lift up to 50-pounds. The position requires considerable concentration, creativity and ability to manage time effectively. The position is subject to stress caused by a changing public environment, mandatory deadlines and heavy workload. Requires the ability to ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.
