Introduction The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State's legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. Main Purpose of Job The OAG is seeking applicants for a Paralegal to join its office that represents the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), located in Lanham, MD. The Paralegal will work with several Assistant Attorney Generals. The position includes paraprofessional work primarily relating to the following areas: DHCD program support, single-family and multi-family real estate transactions, commercial lending, energy efficiency projects, bond/loan transactions, and other practice areas as assigned.
Job responsibilities include: conducting legal research, proofreading, drafting correspondence, working on or drafting transactional documents (including releases, loan modifications, loan and agreements), conducting due diligence, tracking various documents and agreements, tracking the progress of a variety of matters, document and scheduling management, closing binder preparation, and general office support. This paralegal may also provide backup litigation support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school, or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience as a paralegal, including experience drafting and reviewing legal documents on behalf of an attorney. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Mail, Google Meet, and Google Docs. Ability to consistently produce a high volume of work.
Note: Thirty college credit hours or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited college or law school may be substituted for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have:
• Organizational skills, including experience making spreadsheets or document management.
• Experience with other Google applications, various virtual meeting platforms, Microsoft Teams, Westlaw, MD SDAT website, and mdlandrec.net
