GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position handles capital cases and high-profile non-capital cases around the State. The purpose of this position is to provide constitutionally effective representation of people charged with capital and/or serious crimes. This position also is a mentor and trains new attorneys to provide representation as required by law.

- Provides effective representation to clients charged with serious offenses and achieves the best result possible for the situation.
- Assists the new attorneys by co-counseling cases, providing advice and guidance to them in their decisions regarding their cases.
- Handles a caseload of the most complex legal matters, handles trial and appellate assignments involving complex or high-profile cases;
- Performs complex or novel special assignments at the direction of the agency head.
- Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
- Extensive trial knowledge and experience is needed in major felony and murder cases.
- Trial knowledge at the felony level is required.
- Ability and experience in effectively dealing with many different professionals is helpful in this position, as working with all facets of the criminal justice system throughout the entire State is required on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:Juris DoctorateExperience:10+ years of relevant legal experience as a practicing attorney.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Requires membership in the State Bar as an Attorney qualified to practice law in this state.- Necessary Special Requirements
