What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Virginia Notary, or willingness to become one
- At least 3 years of paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department with a general background in real estate, and significant experience in at least one area integral to real estate such as acquisitions and sales, settlements, or corporate matters;
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat;
- Strong reporting, research, analytical, organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, time-management and communication skills;
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and work within deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and work in a team environment;
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment;
- Highest levels of integrity, professionalism, work ethic, dependability and maintenance of confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general paralegal and administrative support to the Legal Department, as well as the Development, Residential, Commercial, Retail, Property Management, Tax, and Finance teams;
- Provide general paralegal and administrative support to the Company, including coordinating execution of documents, notarization;
- Prepare and manage checklists;
- Review Contracts, calendar deadlines and prepare contract summaries;
- Review title commitments, title exception documents, surveys, and participate in other due diligence review for real estate acquisitions;
- Prepare/coordinate closing documents for commercial and residential closings, including Deeds, Instruction Letters, and title company documents;
- Organize/coordinate closing process from start to finish, including tracking post-closing matters and preparation of closing binders;
- Prepare documents and coordinate process and documentation for 1031 exchange transactions;
- Prepare wide variety of legal documents, including, license agreements, purchase and service agreements, promissory notes, deeds, residential and office leases, amendments to contracts and leases, etc.;
- Prepare and file corporate documents for corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships in various jurisdictions, including formation, amendments and terminations;
- Maintain corporate entities (including filing annual reports, preparation and coordination of execution of resolutions, certification letters, amendments to organizational documents, etc.)
- Support the Finance Department throughout the commercial loan transaction process, including, preparation of organizational documents, organizational charts, coordination of title/survey and other checklist items
- Work with title companies, surveyors, outside counsel and other real estate professionals; and
- Respond to requests from principals of company.
