Job Description

  

The Health, Benefits, and Education Paralegal provides case management assistance to case handlers in our Nashville office on TennCare, SNAP, Families First, and Social Security cases. Responsibilities include communicating with clients and other involved parties, completing program applications, reports, and forms, requesting supporting documentation, and general legal assistant duties. The paralegal will help maintain and manage the caseloads of multiple attorneys, and monitor and comply with grant requirements and reporting. This position is funded in part by, and in collaboration with, one or more grants. Personnel must adhere to goals and outcomes detailed in the grant contract. This position is funded for the duration of the grant and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  

Prepare program applications, forms, and reports for review by case handlers.

Request client documents and supporting information.

Promptly and accurately assist case handlers with client meetings, research, case management, filing,s and other tasks.

Create and maintain positive working relationships with organizations in the service area and state which would benefit the client population.

Maintain accurate and orderly client files, adhering to case management database policies and guidelines. 

Support the casework of attorneys as assigned.

Carefully follow directions and promptly respond to requests of attorneys and other LAS staff.



  

Qualifications:

Minimum High School diploma or GED. An associate's degree or a Paralegal certificate is preferred.

2 years of prior experience working in a law office, court, social service agency, or other relevant setting.

Experience working with low-income people.

Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software.

Effective oral and written communication skills, including in client interviews and helping people in crisis. Proficiency in use of office equipment (copiers, scanners, facsimile, postage machine, etc.).

Smart and coachable with a high degree of initiative and emotional intelligence. Team-oriented with a great sense of humor.

Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus.
