Associate Corporate Counsel (Remote)
Mei Rigging & Crating Llc See More Job Openings by This EmployerAbout Us
We are not a law firm. We are not a bank. And we are definitely not a place where legal memos go to die. MEI is a fast-moving subcontractor in the infrastructure and construction world — and we are looking for an ambitious, sharp, and curious early-career attorney to help us build smarter, fight fairer, and work better.
This is your chance to get in-house experience early. We will teach you how to navigate one of the most complex, high-stakes industries in the country — the kind of industry where most lawyers do not break in until mid-career (if at all). If you are ready to skip the endless doc review and start doing real legal work, keep reading.
This is a full-time role based remotely (or hybrid if you are local and you prefer to be at an office). Most of your work will happen in a home office — laptop, phone, and remote set-up provided. Your typical day will be spent at your computer, typing, reading, thinking, and occasionally saying “wait… what?” out loud before figuring something out. Sometimes you might need to stand, stretch, or lift something under 10 pounds (like a laptop or a small stack of contracts). And now and then, you might end up in a warehouse or jobsite setting that is not exactly climate-controlled — we build things, after all.
What You Will Do
No two days will look the same — and that is the point. You will work closely with senior counsel and business leaders across the company. Your job? Help us make deals, solve problems, and manage risk.
- Negotiate and draft a wide range of commercial contracts (customers, vendors, partners — you name it).
- Assist with claims management and disputes (litigation and pre-litigation).
- Jump into real estate deals — from leases to land use — and help us navigate the fine print so we do not get boxed in (literally or contractually).
- Collaborate with HR and operations on employment law issues and compliance.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
- Get your hands dirty in collections, credit risk, and policy enforcement.
- Help shape internal policies and training that is practical and makes sense.
- Research and solve unique, one-off problems that do not always have clean answers.
Who You Are
- A licensed attorney with 0–3 years of experience (some legal clerking or attorney experience preferred, but we care more about potential).
- Comfortable with contracts, curious about business, interested in litigation, and not afraid to say “I don’t know — but I’ll find out.”
- Excellent writer and communicator — clear, crisp, and no unnecessary legalese.
- Hungry to learn, eager to grow, and willing to roll up your sleeves.
- Interested in infrastructure, construction, or just how the real world gets built.
- Bonus points if you have ever worked on a job site, with a General Contractor or subcontractor, or in a legal department already (but not required).
Why This Job?
This is one of those rare roles where you do not have to “pay your dues” in a windowless room for five years before touching meaningful work. You will get reps early, learn how deals are made and problems are solved in the real world, and will join a company that values practical, business-minded lawyers who want to be part of the action — not sit on the sidelines.
If your goal as an attorney is being a narrow, niche specialist doing the same thing every day, this probably is not the role for you. While being siloed is great, we believe that most attorneys are more valuable and marketable being proverbial Swiss Army Knives.
We will invest in your growth and give you exposure to every part of the business. In return, we are looking for someone sharp, grounded, and ready to grow.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree; Juris Doctorate; and Bar licensure [if your licensure is pending, please explain that]
- 0-3 years-experience as a practicing attorney.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time – you cannot work in-house without learning the business from the bottom up.
- Thrives in a primarily remote office setting, i.e. self-directed, responsive, tech-savvy, and not afraid to say “yes” and figure it out (without someone breathing down your neck).
How to Apply:
Submit your application here and upload your resume, cover letter, bar licensure information, and whatever else you think is valuable to market yourself.
We take safety seriously — yours and everyone else’s. We also care a lot about working well together, showing up with integrity, communicating like adults, and taking pride in what we do. If you are looking for a company where people do what they say, own their outcomes, and deliver the kind of service that earns repeat business, you are in the right place.
One last thing — this job description is not carved in stone. We will keep it flexible so we can adapt as the role grows (and you grow with it).
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
