Regular Schedule Non-Merit 35 hours per week, plus Baltimore County benefits.

A full-time, non-merit, Assistant State's Attorney II vacancy exists in the State's Attorney's Office for Baltimore County, Criminal Prosecution Division.  

Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Assistant State’s Attorney II
The Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking highly motivated and skilled attorneys to join our Circuit Court Trial Team. This position will prosecute felony-level cases. The ideal candidates will possess substantial trial experience (3 to 5 years) as well as experience handling complex legal matters.  The starting salary will be based on experience.

Our Office handles over 3,000 felony cases a year. Each Assistant State’s Attorney will be responsible for their own case load as well as handling collateral matters.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Education: J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensing:  Admitted to the Maryland Bar
  • Experience: Experience with criminal jury trials and handling felony-level criminal cases
  • Skills:  Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
  • Passion:  A strong commitment to seeking justice for the citizens of the County
Key Responsibilities
  • Case Preparation:  Review and prepare serious criminal cases for trial, interview victims and witnesses, coordinate with the police.
  • Court Advocacy:  Represent our office in various court proceedings including bail review hearings, preliminary hearings, bench and jury trials, and sentencings.
  • Knowledge of County best practices and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex matters.
  • Communicate with exceptional oral and written communication. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with others (inside and outside our office).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • A strong sense of ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work with the public and various agencies.
  • Strong writing and drafting skills.
  • Strong technology skills, including the ability to coordinate and conduct electronic discovery, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office software and legal research platforms such as Westlaw.
  • A willingness to perform with minimal administrative support.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications, and Education
At the time of the interview, the applicant will be required to submit a Certificate of Good Standing from the Maryland Court of Appeals.

Character Requirement
All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation.
 
Citizenship Requirement
All applicants must be citizens of the United States at the time of appointment.
