Job Description

Klaviyo is seeking a Director, Global Employment Counsel with a passion for all things employment to join our Legal Team. As Global Employment Counsel, you will lead Klaviyo’s Global Employment & Business Affairs team and will work in close collaboration with Klaviyo’s People Team and other teams across the company to define, collaborate, and advise on employment related matters, helping to protect our growing business and proactively manage potential employment-related risks.

 

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a global team of employment legal professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Provide strategic legal guidance and counseling on a broad spectrum of employment law issues, including employee relations, performance management, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, culture initiatives, and employee data privacy
  • Partner with Klaviyo’s People team to evaluate, develop and maintain employment and HR policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Draft and review employment related agreements and templates
  • Support global legal strategies and partner with local counsel to advise on international employment issues
  • Manage employment-related litigation, internal investigations, and other employment related inquiries
  • Conduct audits, employment classification reviews and support other compliance efforts
  • Monitor important developments in employment law in the jurisdictions Klaviyo operates in globally
  • Handle other special projects as needed

Who you are:

  • Minimum 10 years of labor and employment law experience
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts and U.S. federal employment laws and best practices. Knowledge of California employment law strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of global employment laws, preferably including EMEA and/or APAC employment laws
  • JD and membership in at least one state bar (preferably Massachusetts or California) 
  • In-house experience and/or experience advising technology clients as outside counsel
  • Experience managing and leading a team of legal professionals
  • Employment litigation experience, including discovery, strategy, and coordination with outside counsel
  • Experience with internal workplace or compliance investigations
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with data privacy and protection laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) a significant plus
  • A practical, business-oriented approach and excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into simple, actionable recommendations
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity and willingness to grow
