The Position

Responsibilities

  • Conducting, reviewing, and analyzing trademark screening searches in the US and international databases.

  • Reviewing, analyzing, and assisting trademark attorneys with comprehensive US and international trademark searches from search vendors.

  • Preparing, filing, and assisting in the prosecution and maintenance of US trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Instructing outside counsel on filing and prosecution of international trademark applications.

  • Assisting attorneys with trademark oppositions, cancellations and other proceedings; compiling evidence in support of these proceedings.

  • Preparing documents and meeting country-specific requirements, such as notarization and legalization of documents.

  • Reviewing and researching trademark watch notices and assisting trademark attorneys on potential matters.

  • Managing the trademark renewal processes, including preparing and filing US trademark renewals and title updates and managing vendors on international trademark renewals and title updates.

  • Invoice review, docketing and record-keeping for the above responsibilities.

  • Preparing office action responses to non-substantive refusals and/or requirements issued against US applications or registrations.

  • Providing trademark support on projects including acquisitions, divestitures, and audits.

  • Reviewing and processing copyright permission requests.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • The candidate must have trademark prosecution experience with a law firm or company, with demonstrated track record handling domestic and international trademark portfolios; experience in the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare sectors is a plus.

  • Candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and track extensive details.

  • Candidate should be able to work independently and manage multiple deadlines, consulting with trademark attorneys as needed on legal matters.

  • Candidate should be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with business clients and colleagues.

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies and/or Paralegal Certificate with at least 5 years Paralegal experience.
