Salary Range: $41.38/hour - $52.82/hour ($80,700.00 - $103,000.00 annually) *

The Paralegal II is responsible for working with Firm attorneys, clients and professionals to support a wide range of litigation matters. The Paralegal II will typically perform billable tasks associated with case organization, discovery, trial preparation and trial/arbitration. The Paralegal II will provide guidance for case support professionals and organization support to the Firm’s matters.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Ensure case organization protocols are followed.
- Partner with case teams and other colleagues to address client needs.
- Provide on-site support at trial (including out of state).
- Conduct cite checks on both federal and state documents including substantive review for content.
- Conduct calendaring and docket legal analysis including maintaining secondary active and accurate calendars for case teams.
- Conduct legal research on a broad variety of items including procedural requirements, tracking court decisions, and other related topics.
- Provide motion and deposition support such as prepare shell documents, deposition notices, subpoenas, and declarations. Also manage transcript databases, exhibits, interviews, and filings.
- Assist with discovery including:
- Draft shell written discovery and objections.
- Assist with document production efforts by substantively reviewing collected materials.
- Engage in fact development.
- Facilitate foreign language document translations.
- Provide key support on appellate filings by preparing appendices and managing final document submissions.
- Actively participate in firm-sponsored trainings and strive to apply learned principles in ongoing work.
- Support trial lead by responding to direction or exhibiting ownership over deliverables prepared in support of overall trial objectives.
- Implement post-matter closing instructions including:
- Compliance with litigation holds.
- Compliance with document destruction policies.
- Protective order compliance.
- Prepare Bill of Costs for recoverable fees and costs.
- Other duties as assigned.

- MS office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Adobe Acrobat proficiency
- Westlaw, Lexis, Relativity, RingCentral, FileSite, iTimekeep or other related billing tool, Case Notebook or comparable software applications
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Paralegal Certification (California Business and Professional Code Sect. 6450 compliant).
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe tools.
- Proficient with typical legal support software: Westlaw, Lexis, Relativity (or similar), CaseNotebook (or similar), Billing tools and case management tools.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively to support workflow as appropriate at trial.
- Ability to follow direction and procedures including requests from letterhead attorneys regarding matters and then execute or assign work.
- Strong organizational, reasoning and research skills to independently and effectively conduct research in support of assigned matters.
- Ability to interpret complex and substantive case facts and themes as they relate to assigned work.
- Ability to be flexible and agile in work direction and assignments.
- Ability to draft common litigation forms and edit legal documents.
- Reasoning and research skills to independently; cite-checking skills and the ability to produce accurate and timely cite-checks.
- Ability to be available, as needed, to work extended hours, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment, attention to detail, initiative, team player mentality and team building ability.
- Ability to quickly respond to constantly changing instructions, particularly under pressure at trial and understand complex and substantive case facts and themes to effectively direct trial team.
- Ability to exhibit initiative in seeking work and managing work load, consistently produce high quality work product, regularly check for errors and make corrections as necessary, and take ownership of projects and complete assignments in a timely fashion.
- Fluency in a foreign language preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
Writing, typing, reading, speaking, hearing, seeing, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 lbs.
Working Conditions
Primary work will be in the office and on occasion be required to work at a trial site, a client office or other alternative work location.
Direct Reports
No direct reports but will be assisting letterhead with direction of workflow and resources in trial situations.
