Job Ad: Staff Attorney – Executive Division

 

New Hampshire Housing’s mission is to promote, finance, and support housing solutions for the people of New Hampshire. We’re hiring a full-time Staff Attorney for our Executive Division.

 

As a Staff Attorney, you will play a crucial role in providing legal counsel that drives the success of our mission. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing legal guidance to the Executive Director and staff. Collaborating with, and coordinating the work of, external General Counsel, Board Counsel and other legal service providers.
  • Conducting research on legal issues and potential impacts to NH Housing, including in the areas of housing law, contract law and regulatory compliance. Analyzing case law and legislation to inform NH Housing policies and practices.
  • Drafting and/or reviewing and providing guidance on contracts and other legal documents to ensure NH Housing's interests are adequately represented and protected. Assist with contract negotiations and other agreements, as needed.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, particularly those related to housing and real estate. Advise on compliance matters and assist with the development, implementation, education and maintenance of policies and procedures.

  • Identifying potential legal risks and providing strategic advice to mitigate those risks. Assisting in the development and implementation of risk management strategies and policies.

Your experience, skills, and education should include:

  • Expert negotiation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the key legal issues relevant to NH Housing
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
  • At least 3 years of experience in one or more the following areas: corporations, contracts, municipal, real estate law; federal compliance and public entity representation a plus. Experience in administrative law a plus.
  • Education: JD or equivalent from a law school approved by the American Bar Association. License to practice law in New Hampshire.
  • For training purposes, the first six months of work will be in the office. Intermittent remote work available after that time.
