Our client, a leading AmLaw 50 law firm, is seeking a Patent Agent or Patent Associate Attorney with 3+ years of patent counseling, preparation and prosecution experience to join the firm’s pre-eminent, national Intellectual Property Department’s Chemical, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Practice Group in one of the following offices: Boston, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, New York, San Diego, Silicon Valley, or Washington DC. Alternate locations may be considered based on business needs and candidate's experience.
Candidate Profile:
- PhD in the biological sciences (i.e. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics) or a related field.
- USPTO registration number
- Experience drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications required
- Preference for experience in drafting patent opinions, particularly in the field of biotechnology or related technologies.
- Possessing strong legal writing and research abilities, along with excellent written and oral communication skills, is essential.
- Proactive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative work ethic.
- Top academics and law firm experience also required.
- JD from an ABA-approved law school
- Bar Admission in good standing in applicable jurisdiction
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting and prosecuting both domestic and international patent applications.
- Preparing patent opinions specifically in biotechnology or similar technology.
- Work with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications in emerging technology areas.
- Draft comprehensive patent applications and negotiate the scope of patent rights with the Patent Office.
- Prepare reports and support documentation for patent portfolio management.
- Collaborate with a team of experienced attorneys and paralegals in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
This role offers competitive compensation, with a salary range of $150,000 to $260,000 commensurate with experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
