Duties The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) prosecutes federal offenses and defends and prosecutes the U.S. Government's interest in civil cases. The USAO for the District of Nebraska covers all counties in the State of Nebraska. The headquarters office is located in Omaha, Nebraska with a branch office located in Lincoln, Nebraska. The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Nebraska has one position within the Criminal Division, in Omaha. The criminal caseload for the selected applicant will include the full variety of crimes investigated and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's office, including, but not limited to gang-related violent crimes, other crimes of violence, immigration, computer crimes including child pornography, sophisticated white-collar offenses, major drug crimes and firearms offenses.Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
