What we’re looking for: 

Nexamp is looking to hire a Finance Counsel. You will provide legal support for Nexamp’s project and corporate finance function, working across the financing lifecycle on negotiating and closing transactions, as well as funding, and post-closing compliance.  You will to support one of the most important and visible functions within our organization and be part of a growing legal department that is innovative, supportive and dedicated to your success.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized and energetic self-starting team member with a passion for addressing climate change and an ability to think commercially, in addition to a strong legal background.

We are supporting flexible work arrangements (but expect team members to be in the office 2-3 days per week).  We are only accepting candidates able to commute to one of our offices of Chicago, IL, Washington, D.C, and Boston, MA. You will report directly to the VP & Assistant General Counsel.

What you’ll do:  

  • Act as internal counsel for all legal aspects of construction, debt, and tax equity financing for solar and storage projects, as well as corporate-level financings.
  • Assist with corporate structuring in connection with financing transactions.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of templates, internal deal processes and relevant trainings.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and leader to capital markets, project finance and other business units.
  • Role can be expanded to support other business units, depending on experience and interests.

What you’ll bring:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school
  • At least 3 years legal experience, preferably in a law firm setting.
  • Strong experience in project finance, debt finance, and/or tax equity finance
  • Specific experience in renewable energy projects is preferred, but candidates without renewable energy experience with strong backgrounds in finance are also encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to work in a highly team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously with little supervision.
  • Excellent commercial judgment and written and oral communication skills.
  • Occasional travel will be required.
  • Must be a current member of a state bar with a valid license to practice law.

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.   
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality. 
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions. 
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions.
