GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 


This position will assist two attorneys in a fast-paced environment who are responsible for full legal support of the Office, including investments, accounting and unclaimed property. These varied demands require excellence in research, writing and analytical thinking.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Consistently demonstrates analytical ability, administrative skills, proofreading ability, ingenuity, and independent judgment in their area.  
  • Assists attorneys in drafting complex documents, including contracts, board matters, rules, detailed subscription agreements, and other documents. Conducts contract review. Prepares written and verbal correspondence with involved parties, attorneys, and citizens. 
  • Oversees and coordinates document production; compiles information necessary for reports, contracts, record requests, and processes. Completes and processes foreign tax and market opening documents.
  • Gathers information by asking questions or determining sources for information to accurately assist attorneys. Conducts legal research. Conducts factual investigations and research documents, especially regarding unclaimed property. 
  • Performs legal research using both traditional and computer databases to retrieve, organize, index, and cross-reference legal materials. Identifies appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to assigned matters. Verifies the accuracy of legal authorities, websites, and other authorities.
  • Schedules and tracks deadlines to move contracts, record requests, tax forms, and other matters, such as SEC filing and contract renewal deadlines, forward and meet procedural requirements.  
  • Functions upon request as the liaison between the attorney, other parties, and the Attorney General’s Cobblestone contracts system. Provides process and information management of matters, including processing contracts through all the requisite stages. 
  • Maintains statistical data such as securities class actions, country openings, tax statuses, record requests, and contract tracking. Enters pertinent data into designated computer systems/software programs and reviews and verifies data.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications


PREFERENCES: 


Preference may be given to those with a Certificate or a National Association of Legal Assistants certificate as a CLA or ALS (Certified Legal Assistant) or CP (Certified Paralegal) or National Federation of Paralegal Association PACE Registered Paralegal.


KNOWLEDGE:
 

 

  • Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of administrative law, terminology, principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the use of legal reference material and legal research.
  • Knowledge of government and legislative processes.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes and agency mission goals, policies, and procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 

Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Paralegal/Legal Studies)
 
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support Specialist
 
OR
 
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support Specialist

OR

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
National Association of Legal Assistants certificate as a CLA or ALS (Certified Legal Assistant) or CP (Certified Paralegal) or National Federation of Paralegal Association PACE Registered Paralegal

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • Candidates are required to undergo a criminal background check requiring fingerprinting.
