The Role
Support the General Counsel in their role as the lead US representatives of Lloyd’s to the US regulatory and legislative community. Lead key regulatory workstreams providing advice to the market and internal stakeholders.
Prinpical Accountabilities
Develop Lloyd’s regulatory strategy and advocacy approach at federal, NAIC and state level, including preparing position papers and comment letters regarding policy issues.
Manage state and federal legislative activity monitoring workstream including overseeing Regulatory Specialist in tracking bills, regulations and guidance.
Ensure that timely, clear & succinct regulatory compliance updates are provided to Lloyd’s market and internal stakeholders via monthly regulatory reports & maintaining regulatory compliance portal content.
Provide advice to market participants including managing agents, underwriters, coverholders, Lloyd’s brokers and policyholders on regulatory compliance issues.
Manage Lloyd’s relationships with US state regulators, federal authorities and regulatory agencies. Ensure that Lloyd’s maintains a positive reputation.
Coordinate response to regulatory investigations with Lloyd’s market participants and their counsel to ensure minimal damage to Lloyd’s reputation and trading rights.
Draft briefing materials for senior leadership meetings with regulators, legislators and policymakers.
Collaborate with internal teams providing legal & regulatory support for commercial, risk, claims and underwriting workstreams.
Skills
Legal advisory skills and knowledge of insurance regulation
Ability to manage strategic regulatory advocacy campaigns
Ability to conduct legal research and communicate findings effectively to non-legal audience
Ability to coordinate drafting of legal documents with internal colleagues and outside counsel
Presentation/Public speaking skills
Stakeholder Management Skills
Knowledge
Knowledge of general concepts of relevant US law including litigation & commercial law
Insurance market knowledge-including familiarity with London and international markets
Knowledge of the legal & regulatory environment for US insurance regulation as well as the federal legislative process.
Experience
Experience of providing risk based legal advice.
Experience dealing with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience of progressing a variety of matters at the same time and with competing deadlines.
Experience of multi-stakeholder matters and projects.
Salary $160,000-$200,000
