This is a new role to deliver efficiency, coordination and consistency in the delivery of the 90 strong global Legal organization. This position reports directly to the General Counsel and is a senior-level position. The position is responsible for establishing the systems, tools and processes to manage the function as it evolves. It is also responsible for implementing and managing a systematic repeatable contracting process for the function. It is anticipated that this role will self-fund itself through year-on-year efficiencies in the internal and external costs of the function.
The candidate selected to fill this role will be based at our North American Headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan or our Morristown, New Jersey office.
- Establish and manage legal department policies and procedures to enhance productivity.
- Manage the budget for the Legal department including tracking legal expenses and finding ways to reduce costs.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure legal services are delivered efficiently.
- Manage legal vendors and monitor the quality of their services.
- Implement technology solutions for document storage, retrieval, and management.
- Coordinate legal training for Legal and other business units and manage legal awareness programs.
- Develop an end-to-end contract support program in conjunction with other stakeholders within Legal and Procurement.
- Prepare, monitor, and track Legal department objectives. Create metrics and trends on key data points aligned to the General Counsel’s key objectives.
- Typically these skills are obtained with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a business/operations manager in an in-house corporate legal department including experience with technology trends along with a Bachelor’s degree.
- Analytical and research abilities: excellent analytical skills to analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and policy initiatives.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex information are valuable assets.
- Communication: exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Industry knowledge: familiarity with the industry or sector.
- Prior experience with regulatory compliance technologies is a plus.
- Candidate must have exceptional financial acumen and problem-solving skills.
- Candidate must be able to operate autonomously while being a team player.
